Celo

Celo is a stablecoin-native L1 with the largest mobile-first user base in crypto outside the US. Tab settles in cUSD — Celo's native dollar stablecoin issued by the Mento protocol.

Stablecoin

cUSD on Celo mainnet (18 decimals). Unlike Circle's USDC, cUSD is collateralised through Mento's reserve rather than a single issuer's bank account.

Block time and finality

Five-second blocks with single-slot finality. Tab treats payments as settled at the first confirmation; reorgs are not a concern in Celo's consensus model.

MiniPay (Opera Mini wallet)

Celo's reach into emerging markets comes primarily through Opera MiniPay, the wallet built into Opera Mini that ships preinstalled on hundreds of millions of low-end Android devices across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. MiniPay is a non-custodial cUSD wallet with phone-number sign-in — no MetaMask, no seed phrase, no app store install.

Tab's payment links and checkout pages work inside MiniPay with no special handling on your side. The buyer taps the link in WhatsApp / Telegram / SMS, MiniPay opens the in-app WalletConnect sheet, they confirm, and the order settles. The same order.completed webhook fires regardless of which wallet the buyer used.

Gas sponsorship

Tab's relayers pay the gas. Celo natively allows gas to be paid in cUSD, which means the relayer's reimbursement plumbing stays single-currency on this chain — small operational simplification worth knowing about.
